The upper of this Japan Beauty model is made of “Katsuo-jima,” a traditional fabric woven in the Enshu region of western Shizuoka Prefecture. Enshu is one of the three major cotton textile production areas in Japan, along with Senshu in Osaka and Mikawa in Aichi. Among these, “Katsuo-jima” is a striped pattern characterized by a beautiful gradation from dark indigo to white, named after the way the color fades from the back to the belly of the bonito fish (katsuo). This is a uniquely Japanese design that has been popular as a yukata kimono pattern since the Edo period, and is deeply connected with summer festivals, which are a summer tradition in Japan. The pattern is different for each item depending on the cutting position, so you can enjoy a one-of-a-kind-look. The striped pattern is simple yet visually beautiful, creating a cool and calm impression. This is a pair that incorporates a stylish and elegant traditional pattern into a modern style. The word 'katsuo' also has the meaning of "a winning man", therefore this pattern is seen as a symbol of good luck. Fabric is used lavishly over the entire instep, making it easy to slip on and off and giving a relaxed feel. A shoe lace type is also available.
